WASHINGTON−Just hours after the FBI Director designated the Chattanooga shootings as terrorism the Secretary of the Navy has announced that the victims of those attacks will receive the Purple Heart. Following the announcement Congressman Fleischmann made the following statement.
WASHINGTON−FBI Director, James Comey, announced today that the July 16th shootings at two military sites in Chattanooga were inspired by a foreign terrorist organization. WASHINGTON− Today, the House of Representatives passed the SAFE Act to suspend the admission of Syrian and Iraqi refugees into the United States until security officials can certify the integrity of the background check process. WASHINGTON− Following the recent acts of terror that took place in Paris, Congressman Fleischmann released the following statement on the United States accepting Syrian refugees.
“In light of the horrendous attacks in Paris, I believe that we must halt our refugee program with Syria until the proper safeguards are in place. The United States has a long and proud tradition of helping those in need, but this is no longer just a humanitarian crisis. Our top priority must always be protecting the American people.”
Chattanooga− Congressman Fleischmann released the following statement on President Obama’s rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline.
“Today, President Obama put politics above jobs and energy security by rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline. The pipeline had bipartisan support and had been proven environmentally safe by the State Department. With this decision President Obama is not only snubbing our largest trading partner and energy supplier but he is also turning his back on at least 40,000 good paying jobs.”

WASHINGTON− Congressman Chuck Fleischmann released the following statement today following the announcement by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that TVA has been issued an operating lease for Watts Bar Unit 2.
“It comes as tremendous news that Watts Bar Unit 2 has been awarded an operating license. Watts Bar 2 will be America’s first new 21st century nuclear reactor and will provide clean inexpensive, reliable power for East Tennessee.”
WASHINGTON− The House Nuclear Cleanup Caucus held a meeting and panel discussion on Wednesday, September 30 to discuss the EM mission. The caucus meeting featured remarks by the new Department of Energy Assistant Secretary Dr. Monica Regalbuto, who is charged with leading the department’s environmental management mission, a number of Congressional members and a panel discussion of environment management leaders.
