Legislation to study the feasibility of the Benton MacKaye Trail (BMT) to become a National Scenic Trail was reintroduced in Congress by State Reps. Chuck Fleischmann, Steve Cohen, Chuck Edwards and Lucy McBath; and Senators Thom Tillis, Raphael Warnock and Ted Budd.

The Benton MacKaye National Scenic Trail Feasibility Study Act of 2025 would direct the U.S. Forest Service to advance the process for formally designating the BMT as the country’s 12th National Scenic Trail.

Newly appointed United States Secretary of Energy Chris Wright made a visit to Oak Ridge, Tennessee Friday with the Tennessee Valley Authority to learn more about their nuclear energy efforts.

Secretary Wright has highlighted the Department of Energy’s hopes to modernize the nation’s nuclear weapons systems, stoke American innovation and launch what he calls an American nuclear renaissance.

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — United States Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, along with Republican Senator Bill Hagerty and Republican Representative Chuck Fleischmann, addressed the media Friday at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. 

It comes as Wright took a tour of different nuclear facilities around the area and learned more about the history of Oak Ridge.

OAK RIDGE, Tenn.--The U.S. Secretary of Energy visited Oak Ridge on Friday, visiting with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) leaders on a new energy initiative which is putting the state at the forefront of future development.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright was also joined by Tennessee U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty and U.S. Representative Chuck Fleischmann. Together, they visited the Clinch River Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project in Oak Ridge.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Historic Lands Reacquisition Act passed the United States House of Representatives by a unanimous voice vote.

The Tuesday, Feb. 4, passage of H.R. 226, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (TN-03), marks the fifth time that Fleischmann’s bill to restore sacred land to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians has passed the House.
