I believe energy independence is more important now than ever. The United States possesses immense oil and natural gas reserves that are completely unused. Increasing our energy independence can and should be done in a responsible manner that will not unnecessarily drive up energy costs or jeopardize economic growth.
This is why I support an all of the above strategy using renewable sources such as wind, solar, hydropower and geothermal energy. A comprehensive energy policy will foster energy independence, create jobs, provide affordable electricity and boost our economy.
Rest assured I will continue to work to ensure energy production in the United States is done in the safest and most responsible manner so our future generations can enjoy the natural beauty of our great nation.
Nuclear Cleanup Caucus
The Nuclear Cleanup Caucus supports the largest environment cleanup program in the world while also raising awareness on environmental management issues in Congress and across the country.
As Chair of the House Nuclear Cleanup Caucus, I have seen firsthand in my District how nuclear cleanup can positively affect an area. The Manhattan Project site, located in Oak Ridge, is a prime example of how 50 years of government nuclear weapons development can impact communities throughout the nation.
I look forward to continued success in building a strong coalition of nuclear cleanup missions across the country.

Chattanooga− Congressman Fleischmann released the following statement on President Obama’s rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline.
“Today, President Obama put politics above jobs and energy security by rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline. The pipeline had bipartisan support and had been proven environmentally safe by the State Department. With this decision President Obama is not only snubbing our largest trading partner and energy supplier but he is also turning his back on at least 40,000 good paying jobs.”

WASHINGTON− Congressman Chuck Fleischmann released the following statement today following the announcement by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that TVA has been issued an operating lease for Watts Bar Unit 2.
“It comes as tremendous news that Watts Bar Unit 2 has been awarded an operating license. Watts Bar 2 will be America’s first new 21st century nuclear reactor and will provide clean inexpensive, reliable power for East Tennessee.”

WASHINGTON− Today, the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 3, Keystone XL Pipeline Act. After the vote, Rep. Fleischmann released the following statement.
“The Keystone XL Pipeline is critical for our nation and its economy. Not only will the pipeline create over 42,000 jobs for the American people, but additionally, it is expected to bring in a total of $2 billion in earnings. With the new majority in Congress and all hurdles resolved, the time to build is now. I sincerely hope President Obama will listen to Congress and support this pipeline.”

WASHINGTON− Last night, the House of Representatives approved the 2015 Energy and Water Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill. The legislation provides annual funding for national defense nuclear activity, including much of the vital work that takes place in Oak Ridge, TN as well as the Army Corps of Engineers. After passage, Congressman Fleischmann, who serves as Tennessee’s lone appropriator and member of the Energy and Water Subcommittee, made the following statement.
