Small Business Committee Chairman Coming to 3rd District for Forum

March 14, 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Chuck Fleischmann announced today that he will be holding a Small Business Forum with the Chairman of the Small Business Committee, Congressman Sam Graves (R-MO), on March 22, at 2:00 p.m., at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

“I would like to thank Chairman Graves for coming to the 3rd District to hear directly from small business owners and other business leaders in the community. I am committed to continuing my fight on behalf of small businesses across America, and my service on the Small Business Committee allows me to work on their behalf each and every day. It is through forums like this one that myself, and other elected officials like Chairman Graves, are able to hear directly from those impacted by the laws passed in Washington, and how we can help – whether it be by taking action on an issue, or by simply getting out of the way,” Fleischmann said.

“I am looking forward to coming to East Tennessee so Chuck and I can hear first-hand the challenges facing small business owners in this region. House Republicans are focused on promoting policies that stimulate job creation but it’s important for us to listen to our innovators and entrepreneurs out in the real-world. The job creation our economy needs is going to come from small business growth in places like Chattanooga and Oak Ridge, Tennessee, not in Washington. This forum will be a great way for Chuck and I to hear from those who are feeling the real effects of the regulations and legislation coming out of Washington,” Chairman Graves said.

“It is extremely important, in the current economic climate, that the business community be able to communicate directly with the elected officials who set policy in this country. Thanks to Congressman Fleischmann, Chattanooga businessmen and women will now have the opportunity to speak with the Chairman of the Small Business Committee, and communicate their concerns and ideas,” President of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce Tom Edd Wilson said.

“The National Federation of Independent Business is looking forward to productive dialogue with Chairman Graves and Representative Fleischmann,” NFIB/Tennessee State Director Jim Brown said. “NFIB members are frustrated with excessive government oversight and requirements of their businesses, including the new healthcare law, which hampered job creation and free enterprise.”

Following the Small Business Forum, Congressman Fleischmann and Chairman Graves will be touring a small business to continue hearing from those directly impacted by the laws passed by Congress.
