RELEASE: House Passes Additional Funding for Disaster Relief and Recovery Efforts

October 12, 2017

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Chuck Fleischmann (TN-03) issued the following statement in response to the House passage of H.Res. 569, to provide additional funding for disaster relief and recovery efforts:

"In recent months, wildfires and hurricanes have wreaked havoc on America. Today, the House passed an additional $36.5 billion in emergency supplemental funding to combat the wildfires plaguing California, aid the residents of Puerto Rico, and help families continue to recover from the damage and destruction of hurricane-related flooding.

Americans are continuing to rebuild their lives, and they still need our help. Today marked another step toward recovery," Fleischmann said. "I stand with every family that has felt ramifications from the disasters in recent months, and I promise to continue to work with my colleagues in the House to provide the necessary funding."

The funding includes:

  • $18.7 billion for the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Disaster Relief Fund (DRF).
  • $576.5 million for wildfire efforts.
  • $16 billion for debt relief for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
  • A provision for the Disaster Nutrition Assistance Program (DNAP) for low-income residents of Puerto Rico to receive the same emergency nutrition assistance that other hurricane-affected states already receive.
