Chuck Fleischmann votes for over $120 billion in spending cuts to President Obama’s budget

February 19, 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Chuck Fleischmann voted in favor of a Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government for fiscal year 2011, and additional amendments, totaling over $120 billion in spending cuts to President Obama’s 2011 budget.

“This past week has been an historic moment for our republic. After 4 days, and over 90 hours of debate, we have passed an operating budget for the government for the next 6 months. This was an open process allowing full debate as we analyzed nearly every function of the federal government. I was proud to cast my vote for over $120 billion in spending cuts, as that was part of the promise I made to the people of the 3rd District when they sent me to Washington to serve,” Fleischmann said.

“While we still have a long way to go in order to get our country’s debt and deficit problems under control, this week was a good start, and I am honored to have been a part of it. While the Democrats continue to ignore the will of the people, House Republicans listened to the message of the people this past November and acted upon it accordingly.”

Along with the underlying spending cuts of over $100 billion found in the Continuing Resolution, Congressman Fleischmann also voted for amendments that made additional cuts in the following ways:

  • Prohibited any funds being used to pay dues to the United Nations
  • Additional spending cuts of $20 billion and a return of non-security spending to FY 2008 levels
  • Prohibited funds from being used by Planned Parenthood or any of its listed affiliates
  • Prohibited funds from being used to implement ObamaCare
