Chuck Fleischmann testifies before the House Budget Committee

March 8, 2012

WASHINGTON – Congressman Chuck Fleischmann testified before the House Budget Committee this morning. He spoke about the importance of reducing our national debt, balancing our budget, and bringing our nation’s finances under control.

“The greatest threat to our future prosperity and security is our massive national debt. It is critical to our future that we make the decision to reduce spending, and do so immediately. Every day that we wait, the budgetary decisions will get more difficult and the cuts more painful. By speaking in front of the House Budget Committee, I hope to draw attention to the existential danger that out of control spending poses to our nation,” Fleischmann said.

“In fixing our budget, we must look to solutions both large and small. My Freeze Government Spending Act works at the broadest level. It returns discretionary spending to pre-Obama levels, and saves $856 billion. Another bill I introduced, the Stop Green Initiative Abuse Act, ends a wasteful government program, thereby saving over $2 billion in ten years. As we move forward, I will continue the hard work of balancing our budget and reducing our national debt. ”

Since being elected to Congress, Chuck Fleischmann has consistently advocated for the necessary spending cuts to put our nation’s fiscal house in order. In addition to voting for cuts of over $1.6 trillion in 2011, Congressman Fleischmann has supported the Ryan budget with its long term cuts of $6.2 trillion, and cosponsored a Balanced Budget Amendment.
