Chuck Fleischmann statement on September jobs numbers

CHATTANOOGA− Congressman Chuck Fleischmann commented on the September jobs numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The September report indicated that the economy added 114,000 jobs and the unemployment rate decreased to 7.8%.

“I was pleased to see this month that unemployment has finally dropped below 8%. While this is better jobs news than we have seen for a long time, we still have too many Americans out of work. This is something I see every day in East Tennessee, especially in the northern part of my district where we have double digit unemployment,” Fleischmann said.

“When President Obama passed his stimulus, he projected that unemployment would be 5.5% this month. By his own measuring stick his policies have not succeeded, and it is clearly time for something new. That’s why I’ve voted against the coming tax hike, and have introduced my own jobs plan to put Americans back to work. We need to stop expecting the government to drive our job growth, and give the keys back to the small businesses which truly create our jobs.”
