Chuck Fleischmann hosts Military Service Academy Day, announces 2012 appointees

CHATTANOOGA – Speaking to a standing room only crowd, Congressman Chuck Fleischmann, and representatives of the five service academies and two ROTC programs welcomed local students to the University of Tennessee Chattanooga for Military Service Academy Day. Representatives explained the opportunities and qualifications for their programs, and prospective students were able to meet one on one with academy and ROTC representatives. Congressman Fleischmann also announced this year’s nominees to the service academies from the 3rd Congressional District of Tennessee. The nominees are listed below.

“Military Service Academy Day gives students the opportunity to learn about the potential for a career as a military officer. We had a great turnout today, and I was pleased to see both students and parents take such interest in these opportunities. I’d especially like to thank the academy representatives who took time out of their busy schedules to help our young people make such important decisions about their future,” Fleischmann said.


Congressman Fleischmann is pleased to announce the following appointments to the U.S. service academies for 2012:

Mark Caldwell- U.S. Air Force Academy, son of Mark and Ann Marie Caldwell of Lookout Mountain, TN. Attends McCallie School

Tyler Croft – U.S. Military Academy at West Point, son of Jeffrey and Prisavia Croft of Cleveland, TN. Attends Cleveland High School.

Joshua Simpkins – U.S. Military Academy at West Point, son of Douglas and Lisa Simpkins of Chattanooga, TN. Graduate of Ooltewah High School, Attends UTC.

John Eady – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY, son of Stephen and Ellen Eady of Chattanooga, TN. Attends Baylor School

Jason Renner- U.S. Air Force Academy, son of Michael and Karen Renner of Oak Ridge, TN. Attends Oak Ridge High School
