Chickamauga Lock Tour

February 24, 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Chuck Fleischmann toured the Chickamauga Lock yesterday for the first time since taking office. He was briefed by the Army Corps of Engineers, and shown the work being done on the old and new locks.

"Infrastructure such as the Chickamauga Lock is an issue the federal government should work to fund. We need to prioritize our spending so commerce-critical infrastructure like the lock is at the front of the line in the budget process, while bloated bureaucratic programs are not," Fleischmann said.

"I will continue to fight for adequate funding for the lock through the correct budget process, and through the Inland Waterways Trust Fund. The southeast region of the United States needs the lock, and I will work with other members of the Tennessee delegation to ensure its current maintenance and future construction completions."
