Fleischmann on Announcement of Volkswagen, UT, ORNL Partnership & Creation of Innovation Hub
KNOXVILLE, TN – Congressman Chuck Fleischmann (TN-03) issued the following statement in reaction to the announcement of the collaboration between Volkswagen, UT-Knoxville, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory for the creation of the automaker’s first Innovation Hub in the United States:
“Today I am elated to report on the continued commitment and expansion of Volkswagen in Eastern Tennessee,” said Congressman Fleischmann. “This multi-million dollar partnership to establish a groundbreaking “Innovation Hub” will bring together the greatest talent from Volkswagen, UT-Knoxville, and the Oak Ridge National Lab to develop cutting edge technologies necessary for the electrification of Volkswagen vehicles, and support countless jobs across the Oak Ridge Corridor.
“Since the opening of Volkswagen’s Chattanooga Assembly Plant in 2011, the company has manufactured hundreds of thousands of automobiles and currently employs over 3,800 people across TN-03. I look forward to hearing of the technological successes of the new Innovation Hub, and I would like to thank Volkswagen for being a strong force in the prosperity found across East Tennessee.”
