WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Chuck Fleischmann commented on the third anniversary of President Obama’s “stimulus” package.

“By the most important measurable standard, this President’s ‘stimulus’ bill has been an abject failure. His Administration said it would keep unemployment under 8 percent, it has not. In fact, unemployment has been above 8 percent for 36 straight months. President Obama wasted $821 billion our country did not have. He must be held accountable,” Fleischmann said.

  • “The rate of unemployment in the United States has exceeded 8 percent since February 2009, making the past three years the longest stretch of high unemployment in this country since the Great Depression. Moreover…the unemployment rate will remain above 8 percent until 2014.” – Congressional Budget Office
  • “Only 63.7% of working-age Americans are currently in the workforce – the lowest in almost 29 years! To put it another way, 36.3% of working-age Americans do not have a job and are not even looking.” – Republican Study Committee
  • “The share of unemployed people looking for work for more than six months—referred to as the long-term unemployed—topped 40 percent in December 2009 for the first time since 1948, when such data began to be collected; it has remained above that level ever since.” – Congressional Budget Office
