U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., chairman of the Senate Appropriations Energy and Water Development Subcommittee, and U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, R-Tenn., vice chairman of the House Appropriations Energy and Water Development Subcommittee, said Monday the fiscal year 2017 Omnibus Appropriations bill provides a record high $6.038 billion to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Fleischmann, an Ooltewah Republican, was in Egypt as part of a six-member bipartisan congressional delegation that spent part of Congress’ two-week Easter recess traveling the Middle East. The House Appropriations Committee arranged the trip to monitor how foreign countries are spending U.S. assistance.

U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, R Chattanooga, who also attended the Tennessee Association of Manufacturers luncheon, also voiced support for restoring funding for DOE projects, especially those that help provide more than $3 billion a year to DOE facilities in Oak Ridge.
