Fleischmann Leads Fight For Answers About Unaccompanied Children In Tennessee

July 31, 2014

WASHINGTON− This morning, Tennessee’s entire Republican House and Senate delegation co-signed a letter written by Chuck Fleischmann to President Obama demanding answers about the administration’s handling of the release of 760 unaccompanied alien children to sponsors in Tennessee. The letter was written in support of Governor Bill Haslam’s request for the President’s immediate attention to this pressing issue. Congressman Fleischmann released the following statement in response to the letter.

“In light of the influx of unaccompanied children crossing our nation’s border, I, along with my Tennessee colleagues, wrote a letter to President Obama demanding answers about the number, status, and location of these children. For an administration that claims to be honest and transparent, withholding this information from state and local governments is completely unacceptable. We deserve immediate and accurate answers about these illegal immigrants. This is of the utmost importance, and I will not stop fighting until we receive the truth. I have always prioritized strengthening our border and enforcing immigration laws, and it is time the President does the same.”

Congressman Chuck Fleischmann was joined by Representatives John J. Duncan, Jr., Marsha Blackburn, Phil Roe, Diane Black, Scott DesJarlais, and Stephen Fincher as well as Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker. A copy of the letter is attached.
