Chuck Fleischmann comments on the August job report

CHATTANOOGA−Congressman Chuck Fleischmann made the following comments in response to reports indicating that the economy created 96,000 jobs and that the unemployment rate had fallen to 8.1%

“August was another frustrating month for the millions of Americans who are looking for work. 96,000 new jobs is a disappointment for so many of us who want to see our economy succeed and our neighbors and friends get back to work. As I travel throughout East Tennessee, I hear from so many folks who want to work but can’t find jobs. When I travel to the north of my district, where we have double digit unemployment, I hear from so many frustrated Tennesseans, and I share their frustration.

“I also hear from small businesses who are uncertain. They don’t know what new regulations will be put in place, and they don’t know what their taxes will be on January 1st because Democrats are threatening to raise taxes on thousands of small businesses. We need to stop the tax hike and end this uncertainty, so that the private sector can start hiring again and so that unemployed Americans can get back to work.”

The jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics follows a recent report from the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) stating that there were “No new jobs for small business in the month of August.”
