Chuck Fleischmann addresses Memorial Day crowd at Chattanooga National Cemetery

CHATTANOOGA – Congressman Chuck Fleischmann observed Memorial Day at Chattanooga National Cemetery Monday morning. He made brief remarks to the assembled crowd in remembrance of those who paid the ultimate price to ensure the continuation of liberty. Rep. Fleischmann’s prepared remarks are below.

“Our nation is unique. We are founded on the ideal of liberty; an ideal that so many Americans have paid an incredible price to uphold. Throughout our history, millions of Americans have gallantly answered our nation’s call, and while all have served selflessly in defense of liberty, many have paid the ultimate price. Fighting for our nation has never been easy. It is a difficult, dangerous job. Those who fight for our country risk their very lives so that we may enjoy our liberty and our safety.

“Memorial Day is a day in which we recognize the sacrifice of those who have fallen. So many of our young men and women who have paid the ultimate price so that we may sleep soundly at night. What our troops do is nothing less than incredible. They are asked for so much, and they deliver at great personal sacrifice. I remain in awe of what they do on a daily basis.

“Let us honor and remember the sacrifice of those killed and wounded today. Let us pray for the safety of those men and women currently fighting abroad.”
